Blowing the Whistle
Another Great Experience with
Tom Neilson!

This event was co-sponsored by HAGSA and WILPF (Women's International League for Peace and Freedom).

For the third time in four years, Tom put on an outstanding concert for us. (The first two times were in March 2014 and March 2016). As usual, John Lucas and his excellent sound system provided flawless reproduction, helped as before by the thorough microphone check enabled by Tom's very early arrival.

Tom's songs included, as usual, the following themes: political, folk, country, social action, comedy, satire, blues, and so on.

Darien de Lu, one of the WILPF organizers, assisted Tom with two of his songs, both of which were satirical. One, "The Uterus Knows," is based on the assertions of the fundamentalist former Republican congressman, Todd Akin, who believes that a woman's body shuts down its reproductive system because it recognizes "legitimate rape," which he claims is an accepted legal term (which it isn't). The other is "Commandment 1," inspired by something the notorious Pastor John Hagee may or may not have said regarding the vocal and often loud violation of the biblical first commandment at the moment of coitus. To judge for yourself, click here.

Many of you will know Darien de Lu from her biennial October analysis of upcoming California ballot propositions.

We look forward to Tom's next performance on March 18, 2018. In the meantime, you may want to visit his Web site.
